Qualification Overview
The level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) Requalifying course is a regulated qualification based on the HSE training standard for delivery of First Aid at Work courses for the purpose of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.
This course is designed for First Aiders who wish to renew their first aid at work qualification when their certificate is due to expire.
As a regulated qualification it also enables employers to fulfil their legal responsibility for providing quality first aid training.
How long is the course and how long is the certificate valid for?
The course is 12 guided learning hours with 2 mandatory Units to complete.
The certificate is valid for 3 years after which you are no longer able to act as a first aider in the workplace.
Learning Outcomes
Unit 1 Emergency First Aid in the Workplace
- Understand the role and responsibilities of the first aider
- Be able to assess an incident
- Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty
- Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who is choking
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty who is in shock
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with minor injuries
Unit 2 Recognition and Management of illness and injury in the workplace
- Be able to conduct a secondary survey
- Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected injuries to bones, joints and muscles
- Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected head and spinal injuries
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected chest injuries
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with burns and scalds
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with an eye injury
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with sudden poisoning
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected major illness
How is the qualification assessed?
There are 6 practical assessments x 6 conducted by the trainer throughout the course
Theory assessment 1 x 15 question paper (minimum score 11) and 1 x 25 question paper (minimum score 18).
